First Danish International
The scene was set for a great game of football on September 5, with the North London Lions from the British Australian Rules Football League making the journey over the English Channel to play in the first pan- European Aussie Rules match.
Fielding two teams for the weekend, a hospitality "drinking" team and a match team, the locals were confident against the stronger and more- experienced group of tourists.
Both countries put in fine performances at the bar on the Friday night (although next time, team members might like to start the boat races with full glasses of beer!!!).
Although players from both sides were seen still wandering around town in the wee hours of the morning, everybody managed to find their way out to the ground at Emdrup for the football match on Saturday morning.
The tourists, fielding a strong team of 35 players with a large number of Australians, however won the match against the selected 20-man Danish squad, the final score being 21.16.142 to 3.13.31.
Victory may not have gone to the host team, but it was a great experience and a great weekend for all involved. Look out next year, Lions!
